40: IKEA saves the day!

One of the important parts of our new extension is the new Learning Room upstairs.  For the first time we will be able to talk to a whole class of children in one space, and the room will also be available for booking by outside groups such as the North Devon Archaeological Society.  It will be accessible by lift, and there will be a small kitchen for providing tea and coffee or washing up.layout

The kitchen is really very small and simple, but the quotes we had from specialist kitchen suppliers was very high.  We decided the best way to get the quality we wanted for the budget we had was to go to IKEA.  And so I made an appointment in Exeter, and spend an hour picking out out the appliances and cupboards we needed.

Our contractors were slightly doubtful about installing the kitchen – its much easier for them to have unit coming in ready-assembled.  But they had the IKEA guide to help them, and were surprised how well it turned out. They just need to lay the floor and finish the painting and we’ll soon be welcoming people to use this new space.
